Ottawa fly casting clinic days were held on October 3 & 4, 2013, attended by twenty Wounded Veterans. We were lucky enough to have Jean-Pierre Martin with us. Jean-Pierre is a master certified instructor. He is a graduate of the USA’s Joan Wulff School of Fly Fishing.
All the attendees became proficient in the many techniques taught to them by Jean-Pierre (www.jepechealamouche.com). All participants were given a complete set of fly fishing equipment graciously donated by the Royal Canadian Legion. The kit will remind them of their fly casting clinic day.
Fourteen of Ottawa’s Wounded Veterans participated in fly tying clinics delivered in November 2013, on 5, 12, and 26. Clinics also took place on Dec 3 and 10, 2013. We had the help of five instructors. Four were members of the Ottawa Flyfishers Society (http://ottawaflyfishers.com) who graciously volunteered their free time for the cause. The fifth was an enthusiastic fly fishing volunteer!
All participants were also given a complete set of fly fishing equipment generously donated by the Royal Canadian Legion. The project was such a success that the group was inspired to continue the fly tying sessions by creating their own fly tying Club.
We also want to thank the Atlantic Salmon Federation (www.asf.ca) and Uni-Products (www.uniproducts.com) who graciously donated fly tying materials. Additional thanks also go out to the Royal Canadian Legion who provided the room used for the fly tying sessions.
